Kylie's Winners Hop - Watercolour/Snow Thank You Card

Wow, thank you so much to all of you who voted for my card, and helped me to win first place!!! Woohoo! I am so excited to be in the Top Ten again, with such artistic people. If you didn't see my card, there is a photo of it at the bottom of this blog post.

This time around, I am able to participate in the Top Ten Winners Hop! I have been on a watercolour kick lately, so I am using one of the techniques I learned for the background of this card.

For my winning card (see the bullrushes silhouette card below), I used an acrylic block watercolour smoosh technique. This time, I spritzed Shimmery White cardstock until it was fairly wet. Here's a handy tip: spritz the back of the cardstock too, and it will lessen the curling of the paper. Once the paper was wet, I added ink refill drops to the Shimmery White paper with a Water Painter, and just let the colours blend. I started with the lightest colour, and then added the darker ones. I used Balmy Blue, Bermuda Bay, Pacific Point, and Highland Heather. Set this layer aside to dry--it's important to let the paper dry thoroughly before doing the next step. You can use a heat tool to speed up the process, if you like (or if you're impatient, like me).

I stamped the sentiment (from Snowflake Wishes) onto the dry background with Memento ink. The watercolour background was glued to a piece of Highland Heather cardstock with Stampin' Seal+ (which works really well to make the layer hold smoothly and completely--sometimes there can be issues with paper that was wet). I then adhered the card front to a Pacific Point card base with Dimensionals.

The beautiful silver foil stitched frame was cut with Rectangle Stitched Dies, using the two largest rectangles, nested on my brand-new Stampin' Cut & Emboss machine (LOVE it!!) and cut in one step. I used two more favourite dies to cut some silver foil pieces to complete the card--Christmas Layers Dies for the snowflakes, and Stitched Stars Dies for the flourishes. Before I cut the silver pieces, I added an adhesive sheet to the back of the foil. This is a huge timesaver! Not only is it super-easy to glue the finely-detailed diecuts to the background, but when you lift the foil from the backing paper, the "bits" separate easily from the snowflakes and flourishes!! Easy-peasy!!!

I made one more version that's very similar. The matting is slightly different (I used the leftover silver foil from the inside of the first card's stitched rectangle, and cut again using the next smaller die), and I added white snowflakes this time, instead of silver. Which version of the card do you prefer?

This card is not only a great Thank You card ("Thank You Snow Much"--heehee! 😊), it would make a lovely Christmas card, as well!! Just choose another sentiment from the stamp set, such as "Snowflake Wishes for a Merry Christmas" or "May Your Season Sparkle".

Here is the card that allowed me to participate in today's International Highlights Top Ten Winners Blog Hop. Thank you again for voting! I really appreciate your support!!

Watercolour Stitched Leaves Card

Here is a quick autumn card! The Stitched Leaves Dies are pretty awesome! I used the largest die to add some stitching detail to my Early Espresso cardstock layer, as well as to cut out the three leaves, and then to add add embossed stitching detail to the slightly smaller watercolour Shimmery White cardstock layer that I placed below.

See my previous and next blog posts to see two different methods for making the watercolour background!

Once the embossed background and Early Espresso cut-out layers were completed, I popped up the cut-out layer from the watercolour layer with Dimensionals. Then I adhered it to a Mango Melody card base with Seal+. The "Hello" was stamped in Cajun Craze onto So Saffron, and then cut out with the smallest Stitched So Sweetly die.

West Coast Creators Blog Hop - September 2020

This month in our West Coast Creators Blog Hop, we are focusing on Autumn and Halloween, and the Love of Leaves bundle is perfect for fall! The Stitched Leaves Dies are absolutely gorgeous!! Six leaves of various sizes and types can be cut, leaving a stitched "negative space," and each of the leaves can also be embossed. Check out the leaf in my card below!

Our new Plaid Tidings Designer Series Paper showcases several beautiful fall colours. This particular pattern paired well with Early Espresso (the card base), Rich Razzleberry, Cajun Craze, Melon Mambo, and Bumblebee. The leaf is cut from Brushed Metallic cardstock.

Another cool part about the die set is a large die that adds rows of stitching lines to add texture to your card.

I added some extra details to this card using three border dies--the stitched scalloped Bumblebee one is cut with Stitched Be Mine Dies, the stitched Rich Razzleberry eyelet border (gee--can you tell I love stitched cardstock?) and floral border are both from Ornate Borders Dies. The Cajun Craze layer is embossed with our Tasteful Textile 3D embossing folder--a new favourite!

My sentiment, from Love of Leaves, was stamped in Cajun Craze, then cut with a Stitched So Sweetly die, and added to the card with Dimensionals. If you've checked out my blog before, you know these aren't my typical colours, but I do like the final product. I hope you agree!

Watercolour Many Layered Blossoms Card

I love the Many Layered Blossoms dies, but this is the first time I have used it. I'm really happy with how the card turned out! As a bonus, this card is actually very quick to make!

I started out with a piece of Shimmery White cardstock, and spritzed both sides of it with water (two or three sprays on the back to prevent curling, and a bunch on the front). This time I used about two ink refill drops each of Balmy Blue, Bermuda Bay, Pacific Point, and Highland Heather in separate sections of a mini paint pallete. I like to stick to an array of similar colours, so that I don't end up with a lovely brown sludge look.

Starting with the lightest colour, I dipped the Water Painter into the ink, and added it to the wet paper, and letting it blend and go where it wants. I did this several times with each colour, all over the paper, until the paper was completely covered, adding more water if needed. I blotted any puddles of water gently with paper towel, and allowed it to dry. It's really important that the watercolour background is very dry--you can use a heat tool to speed up the process. Here's a helpful hint: I keep turning the paper over, and using the heat tool on both sides. When the paper doesn't curl very much, it's usually dry.

Once the Shimmery White piece was dry, I decided what colour of cardstock to use for the diecut--I liked the look of Blackberry Bliss. I used a mat of the same colour and mounted the Shimmery White piece to it. Adding a piece of our Adhesive Sheets to the back of the cardstock before die cutting made attaching the beautiful blossoms cut-out an absolute breeze!! Plus, I find it really easy to remove the diecut when it has adhesive on the back--I just pull the flower outline up from the backing and adhere it to the dried watercolour background. A little of the flowers will extend over the background piece.

I glued the card front to a Pacific Point base. The sentiment is from Itty Bitty Greetings, which is one of my favourite sets, because it has greeting for all occasions! This was stamped with Versamark, and then heat embossed with white embossing powder. Another favourite, Stitched So Sweetly dies, was used to cut the sentiment tag, and then I adhered it to the card with Dimensionals.

My sister gave me the idea of using a hole punch on each colour of cardstock and gluing it to the ink refill lid (use a glue dot). She also does this on the caps of her Stampin' Blends. Brilliant, hey??

Thank you so much for checking out my blog! I'd love it if you would leave a comment, and then be sure to check out all the amazing cards made by my fellow demonstrators from all around the world!

The technique for the background for this card is quick, easy, and produces a different result every time! I used a piece of Shimmery White cardstock for the card--this is one of my favourite cardstocks to use for watercolour and sponged backgrounds. I coloured on an acrylic block (size F), using several Stampin' Write Markers from the Brights collection (Daffodil Delight, Mango Melody, Flirty Flamingo, Melon Mambo, and Gorgeous Grape). For this card, I started with splotches of alternating lighter colours at the bottom, and darker colours toward the top of the piece, making sure that the colours on the block would cover the entire white layer. Using a Stampin' Spritzer, I spritzed water (3-5 sprays) from a height of about 6", until the colours began to blend. Next I turned the block over, and pressed it firmly onto the Shimmery White cardstock. I blotted any puddles with paper towel, and then allowed this layer to dry thoroughly.

The bullrushes or flowers silhouette was cut from the Friendly Silhouettes Dies from a piece of Basic Black cardstock. Once the watercolour piece was dry, I adhered the silhouette to the background piece, and trimmed the excess. I cut a stitched frame from black cardstock, using the Stitched Rectangle dies.  I added foam strips all around the back of the frame, and coloured the inside and outside edges of the foam strips with a black Sharpie marker (so the foam wasn't as visible), then attached the frame to the watercolour piece.

The card front was adhered to a piece of Crushed Curry cardstock, and then layered on a Soft Suede card base.

The sentiment was stamped, and cut out with the smallest of the Stitched So Sweetly dies, and added to the card with Dimensionals. To finish the card, I added three clear Elegant Faceted Gems.

Here is another card, this time made with the flowers silhouette die.
