Paradise Palms Sunset Thank You Card

I am really happy that the Paradise Palms Bundle carried over into the new Annual Catalogue! If you've visited my blog before, you'll know that I love ocean and sunset cards! I just ordered this stamp set and dies recently, and hadn't used them yet, so I thought I'd give it a go for this month's contest!

Here's a photo that shows the shine on the water better.

This was a fairly quick card to make. Our Blending Brushes are so easy to use, and help you create gorgeous backgrounds, like the one above. I masked the sun, and added Daffodil Delight, Mango Melody, Polished Pink, and Highland Heather in circles around the sun. Next, I masked the sky with a Post-it Note, and added Bermuda Bay and Pacific Point to the water with Blending Brushes. The island, trees, sentiment, and birds were stamped with Tuxedo Black ink. Wink of Stella adds some extra shine to the water!

The cool border is cut with one of the Palms dies, and the card front is attached with Stampin' Dimensionals above the frame. Full directions are below.

Thanks so much for stopping by--and for voting!!! If you like my card, please click here--then remember to click on the top right corner of the thumbnail of my card (#10) until the heart turns red--that way you know that your vote is registered:

Full Directions for My Paradise Palms Card:
  1. Cut the following layers:
    • Bermuda Bay cardstock: 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored at 4-1/4"
    • Shimmery White cardstock: 5" x 3-3/4"--die cut with second largest Stitched Rectangles die
    • Basic Black cardstock: 5-3/4" x 3" (cut 4 lattice pieces)
  2. Cut a 1" circle from a Post-it note to use as a mask for the sun. Use Blending Brushes to add ink around the circle (Daffodil Delight, Mango Melody, Polished Pink, and Highland Heather). Remove mask, and add a little Daffodil Delight over the sun.
  3. Cover the sky with a large Post-it note, and add Bermuda Bay and Pacific Point to the water. Add some waves with Pacific Point (using the fence stamp from On the Horizon), and some Wink of Stella to the water.
  4. Stamp the sentiment, birds (both from On the Horizon), island, and trees (both from Paradise Palms) in Tuxedo Black.
  5. Glue the lattice pieces to the edges of the Bermuda Bay card base, trimming the vertical pieces to fit.
  6. Adhere the card front to the card base with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  7. Add three Iridescent Rhinestones Basic Jewels to card front.

Fireplace Fun-Fold Thank You Card

Hello! Thank you so much for visiting my blog! It's time for Kylie Bertucci's November International Blog Highlights contest, and I have made a special card for it. If you like it, I hope that you will vote for mePlease click on the button below to go to Kylie's blog, and vote by clicking on the top right corner of the thumbnail of my card (#3), until you see the heart turn red. Thank you so much for your support!!

Oooohh!!! This card 3D was so much fun to make!! I have made a few double-box fun-fold cards (please see my October 4 and 14 blog posts), after being inspired by a card that Gail Ellis made. I modified Gail's measurements, and this one has a twist that I came up with myself--it's a triple-box card, which is also turned onto its side!! I wanted the fireplace to be "open" and set back a bit from the face of the card, making it a little more "realistic" than my October 14 blog card. It took some planning, but in the end it was quite easy (it just took me a long time to figure it out! 🙄). I am really happy with how it turned out, and I hope you like it, too!!

I cut (but didn't assemble) the double-box pieces from Just Jade cardstock (bottom box: 9-3/8" x 4-1/4", scored along the long side at 3/8", 1-3/8", 2-7/8" and 3-7/8"; top box: 3-1/2” x 4-3/8", scored along the long side at 3/8" and 1-3/8"). I wiped the top side of the Brick & Mortar 3D embossing folder (the side with the Stampin' Up! logo) lightly with a Smoky Slate ink pad, then embossed a 3-3/8" x 2-7/8" piece of Basic White cardstock. This is how I coloured the mortar between the bricks. Pretty cool, hey? I glued the embossed white piece to the top box, and cut out the hole for the fireplace through both layers with a Stitched So Sweetly Die (without cutting the bottom curved part of the die--if you don't put cutting plates at that area, it won't cut).

For the third box, which nests inside and becomes the inset fireplace, I cut some Basic Black cardstock (3" x 3-3/4", and scored it along the long side at 3/8", 1-1/8", 2-5/8", and 3-3/8". I die cut several seaweed shapes from the Smooth Sailing Dies in Mango Melody, Pumpkin Pie, and red and copper foil, cutting them and adding them with mini glue dots to the widest panel, which would become the front of the fireplace. I gave the mango and pumpkin "flames" a couple of coats of Wink of Stella, to give them some sparkle. It's hard to see in the photo, but the back of the fireplace is set back from the card front.

Next, I folded all the score lines, and glued the fireplace to the top and bottom of the small box (inside the "bottom box" (the card base), at the bottom of the card). The top 3/8" of the black piece glues inside the 3/8" tab of Just Jade, and the other 3/8" tab of the black is adhered to the corner at the back (and bottom) of the card base--see the side photo above (it will make more sense).

The Designer Series Paper (DSP) really does a lot of the work in this card! For the wallpaper, I adhered a 4" x 4-1/4" piece of striped Hand-Penned DSP to the bottom of the box, leaving an even margin of Just Jade cardstock at the top and sides. Then the 3/8" tab of the Just Jade bottom box is glued in place over the wallpaper. I fussy cut the plant pot and leaves (from Bloom Where You're Planted DSP), the cat and fishbowl (from Sweet Stockings DSP), and cut a piece of wood-type paper from In Good Taste (3-7/8" x 1-7/8", scored along the short side (so parallel to the long side) at 1-1/4", 1-1/2", and 1-5/8") to make a mantle. I glued this piece to the top (the 1" panel) of the Just Jade upper box, folding the edges down and under to form the front of the mantle. The upper box is then glued to the card base. The plant leaves, pot, cat, and fish bowl were all attached with Stampin' Dimensionals to the wallpaper, just above the mantle. The sentiment, from the Many Messages stamp, was cut with the Messages Die, and adhered to the wallpaper.

And look!! This 3D card folds flat to fit in a regular envelope!!
