Hippest Hippos Thank You Card

Hello there! Thank you for visiting my blog! And thank you so much for voting for my card--it placed fifth in Kylie Bertucci's August International Blog Highlights competition!! I am honoured to be part of a group of amazingly talented designers from all around the world, and to have been invited to participate in the Top Ten Winners Hop again. (I have posted my winning card at the bottom of this blog entry, in case you haven't seen it.)

Hippest Hippos Thank You Card

Our Hippest Hippo stamps and Hippo Dies are just the cutest!! And right now during Sale-a-Bration, one of Stampin' Up!'s best promotions of the year, you can earn a FREE Sale-a-Bration reward with every $60 (before taxes and shipping)!! The Hippest Hippos stamp set can still be earned for FREE with a $60 purchase in Canada!* Unfortunately, the Hippo Dies was extremely popular and has now sold out. 😢 The photo of the Sale-a-Bration brochure in the right sidebar has a link that will show you all of the products that you can choose for free! If you live in Canada 🇨🇦 and don't presently have a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, I'd love to help you out! Shopping links are below. *PLEASE NOTE: Sale-a-Bration has ended so the free Hippest Hippos stamp set and the Hippo Dies are no longer available.

My shaker card was so much fun to make! I was inspired by a card that I saw made by Ann Alexander of Australia. I started by scribbling on a piece of Vellum cardstock with four Stampin' Blends (Tahitian Tide, Bermuda Bay, Orchid Oasis, and Night of Navy), and then spritzed it with 99% isopropyl alcohol to make the colours blend. This became the background behind my window sheet cutout, where I added the Effervescent Elements (which I absolutely love!).

I love how the Effervescent Elements pick up the
colours of the background! Aren't they amazing?

The hippo is coloured with Smoky Slate Stampin' Blends, and given a snorkel and mask (which has window sheet "glass"). The seaweed is vellum cut with the Splendid Stems dies, and then coloured with Parakeet Party Stampin' Blends. The Pacific Point card front is dry embossed with our Stripes & Splatters 3D embossing folder (the Splatters folder, as you likely guessed 😉). Full directions for my card are below.

Here is the card I submitted for this month's contest. Thanks again for voting it into fifth place! To see more photos and directions for the card below, click here.

Full Directions for My Hippest Hippos Thank You Card:
  1. Cut the following layers:
    • Tahitian Tide cardstock: 11" x 4-1/4", scored at 5-1/2"; 3-1/2" x 1" (die cut wave, snorkel, mask, and water drops), 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" (for background behind vellum)
    • Basic White cardstock: 5-1/4" x 4"; 2-1/2" x 1-1/4" (stamp sentiment in Pacific Point, cut with Stylish Shapes banner, then cut again to trim), 2" x 2-1/2" (stamp hippo in Memento Black, then colour with Smoky Slate Stampin' Blends, and cut with Hippo Die)
    • Pacific Point cardstock: 5" x 3-3/4" (die cut with largest Stylish Shapes circle, then dry emboss with Splatters 3D Embossing Folder)
    • Foam Sheets: 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" (die cut with largest Stylish Shapes circle)
    • Vellum Cardstock: 3-1/2" x 3-1/2"; 4" x 3" (die cut seaweed using Stylish Stems dies, then colour with Parakeet Party Stampin' Blends)
  2. Adhere Basic White onto Tahitian Tide card base.
  3. Scribble Stampin' Blends onto square vellum piece, filling in entirely with Tahitian Tide, Bermuda Bay, Orchid Oasis, and Night of Navy. Spritz with a small amount of 99% isopropyl alcohol to blend the colours. Start with a small amount--if you add too much, it takes most of the colour away. Spritz more alcohol, if necessary. If you need to, you can always repeat this step. Allow to dry completely.
  4. Adhere the vellum sheet (right side up) with Stampin' Seal to the square Tahitian Tide piece, but only at the outer edges (outside of the exposed circle).
  5. Use Seal to glue the window sheet over the cut out circle onto the back of the embossed Pacific Point layer (being careful that the glue doesn't show).
  6. Remove the inner circle from the foam sheet. Remove the backing from one side of the remaining foam sheet. Adhere to the window sheet, carefully lining up the edges of both circles.
  7. Add about 1-1/2 teaspoons of Effervescent Elements inside the foam "fence". Remove the remaining backing from the foam sheet, and then add the vellum/Tahitian Tide piece, with the right side of the vellum facing the elements. Press well to seal.
  8. Add leftover strips of the foam sheet to the bottom and edges of the back of the Pacific Point sheet, and adhere to the Basic White layer.
  9. Add wave, hippo, seaweed, and water drops to card front.
  10. Adhere sentiment label with Dimensionals
  11. Add three Polished Dots to card front.

I'd love for you to comment below, if you have a moment. 😊 Then be sure to check out the other Top Ten Winners' cards!!

Tree Lot Dies Thank You Card

Hello!! Thank you so much for visiting! I've entered this card in Kylie Bertucci's August International Blog Highlights contest! I hope you like my card--and, if you do, I'd be grateful if you would vote for me, pleasePlease click on the button below to go to Kylie's blog, and vote by clicking on the top right corner of the thumbnail of my card (#9), until you see the heart turn redThank you so much for your support!!

Tree Lot Dies Thank You Card:

Stampin' Up!®'s Sale-a-Bration is on now, and you can earn a FREE Sale-a-Bration product for EVERY $60 that you spend!! There are also some Level 2 rewards, that you earn for a $120 purchase! The card I created uses one of these Level 2 rewards--Tree Lot Dies.** This is an amazing set, and it contains 24 dies!! If you live in Canada, you can purchase $120 in my online store and choose this fabulous die set for FREE!** The Tree Lot Dies coordinate with our Trees for Sale stamp set (#159785) in our new July to December Mini Catalogue.

The background for this card was made using a watercolour wash technique. This is one of my favourite backgrounds to make! It's quick, beautiful, and you get a different result every time! (I made a similar card using Blending Brushes for the background recently.) See the full directions for this card below.

I made the fire with some scraps of cardstock and glimmer paper. I used Splendid Stems Dies for the flames, but you could just cut them out with scissors. The logs were cut with the Tree Lot Dies.

This doesn't show well in the photo, but the detailed upper layer of the trees
has been painted with Wink of Stella to give them some shimmer.

The trailer and trees (which I painted with Wink of Stella) are die cut with the Tree Lot Dies, and then assembled.

Thanks very much for stopping by--and for voting!!! If you like my card, please vote here--then remember to click on the top right corner of the thumbnail of my card (#9) until the heart turns red--that way you know that your vote is registered:

    • Starry Sky cardstock: 5-5/16" x 3-7/8"
    • Granny Apple Green cardstock: 5-1/8" x 3-3/4" (or cut a frame using the largest two dies from Stitched Rectangles Dies)
    • Basic White cardstock: 5" x 1-1/4" (cut or tear for snowbank); 5" x 2" (for detailed and background trees)
    • Basic Black cardstock: 1/2" x 1/2" (for tire)
    • Silver Foil 12" x 12" Specialty Pack: 2-1/2" x 1-1/2" (die cut trailer pieces, trailer rim, and hitch)
    • Neutrals 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper: 2-3/4" x 2" (die cut main part of trailer)
    • scraps of gold glimmer paper, Soft Saffron, Calypso Coral, and Soft Suede cardstock--for fire; die cut Soft Suede with 3 logs die
  2. Spritz the back of the Shimmery White layer with water a few times (this minimizes curling), and the front generously. Dab ink refill drops (Granny Apple Green, Pacific Point, Orchid Oasis and Starry Sky), starting at the bottom with the lightest colours, adding to the wet paper with a Water Painter, and letting the ink blend on its own. Dab the excess puddles with a paper towel. Allow the cardstock to dry completely.
  3. Stamp the sentiment (using Grassy Grove stamp set) with Memento ink.
  4. Use a Sponge Dauber to add Pool Party ink to the top edge of the snowbank (and to the edge of the hill, if desired). Adhere the snowbank to the Shimmery White layer with Seal.
  5. Paint the detailed trees with Wink of Stella to give them some shine. Then adhere them to the tree background layer. Add to the snowbank, adding the smaller tree with a Dimensional.
  6. Adhere the Shimmery White layer to the Starry Sky layer, and then add the Granny Apple Green frame.
  7. Adhere the card front to the Orchid Oasis card base.
  8. Make the fire with the scraps, adding the die cut logs, and adhere to the card front.

** Sadly, the Tree Lot Dies have sold out. 😥 **
