Another Thank You Snow Much Card

Thank you so much to all of you who voted for my card in Kylie Bertucci's November International Blog Highlights--my card came in FIRST place!! I am beyond excited!! I get to participate in Kylie's Top Ten Winners Hop again. I am SO honoured to be hopping with such wonderfully talented designers from all over the world. If you didn't see my winning card (sorry!! I really am excited!), it is posted at the bottom of this blog entry.

This card is a Z-fold gift card holder! Who wouldn't want one of these? To make it, I created my own Designer Series Paper (DSP)! We had a gorgeous DSP last year that I absolutely loved (Snowflake Splendor)!! It retired, so I thought I'd try to make something similar myself.

I used our amazing Blending Brushes and our Adorning Designs Decorative Masks to make the paper. I am pretty happy with how it turned out!

I also used our Scalloped Contours Dies (for the frame on the card front, and for the inside stitched scalloped rectangles), as well as one of the Potted Succulent Dies for the label, and Snowflake Wishes for the sentiment.

  1. Cut the following layers:
    • Highland Heather cardstock: 9-3/4" x 5", scored at 3-1/4" and  6-1/2", 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" (card base), 3-1/2" x 2-1/2" (for pocket), 2-1/2" x 2" (for sentiment)
    • Pacific Point cardstock: 4-1/4" x 5-1/2"
    • Shimmery White cardstock: 7" x 4-3/4"
    • Basic White cardstock: 3-1/2" x 4-3/4"
  2. Use low tack tape to hold the snowflake decorative mask to the Shimmery White piece. Use Blending Brushes to colour in the snowflakes with Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape, Pool Party, Coastal Cabana, Bermuda Bay, and Pacific Point. Remove mask, and add ink colours to the background (lighter than the snowflakes).
  3. Cut 3-5/16" x 4-9/16" piece from the snowflake piece, and cut a scalloped rectangle from the remaining piece, using the second largest rectangle.
  4. Use the largest rectangle die to cut the Pacific Point frame, the second largest to cut the Basic White piece and the pocket from the Highland Heather. You'll need to reposition the die to cut the top of the Highland Heather rectangle so that it is 6 scallops high (see the photo)--it will measure about 3-1/8" x 2-1/8".
  5. Fold the large Highland Heather cardstock into a Z-fold. Position it so that the fold to the left is a mountain-fold, and the one to the right is a valley-fold. Adhere the scalloped Shimmery White snowflake rectangle to the middle panel, and the Basic White scalloped rectangle to the right panel--be sure both rectangles have an even top/bottom and right/left margin. Adhere the Highland Heather scalloped rectangle over the snowflake DSP, matching the bottom and sides to the snowflake rectangle--be sure to only glue the left, right, and bottom, so that a gift card will fit into the pocket.
  6. Glue the back of the right (white) panel to the card base with Seal, making the bottom edges of the Z-fold even with the card base, and having even borders on the left and right. Refer to the photo above--the card should fold out to the left.
  7. Adhere the remaining Shimmery White rectangle to the Pacific Point frame. Wrap a 14" length of White Glittered Organdy Ribbon through the frame and tie in a knot, then use Seal to attach this layer to the card front.
  8. Stamp the sentiment in Pacific Point, then die cut with the label die from Potted Succulents Dies. Adhere to the card front with mini Dimensionals.
  9. Add three Rhinestone Basic Jewels to the card.

Below is my winning card. To see the directions for it, please go to my November 8th blog post.

West Coast Creators Blog Hop - Giving Gifts Christmas Card

Welcome to the West Coast Creators Blog Hop's November edition!! As you can probably tell, this month we are featuring Christmas cards! It is hard to believe that Christmas is only six weeks away!! Yikes! Time to get your cards made! Here's a great card to make, using the Time of Giving Bundle, which includes the Time of Giving stamp set and the Giving Gifts Dies. This is an AMAZING bundle, because it is so versatile! It contains stamps and dies that are great for Fall, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Winter, and Christmas!!! This is a great bang-for-your-buck bundle!!

My card style was inspired by one I saw a long time ago, made by Fanny Stafford.

  1. Cut the following layers:
    • Basic Black cardstock: 8-1/2" x 5-1/2", scored at 4-1/4"
    • In Good Taste Designer Series Paper (DSP): 4" x 5-1/4" (wood grain)
    • Silver Foil: 3-1/4" x 4-1/2"
    • Shimmery White cardstock: 2-7/8" x 4-1/4"
    • Basic White: 4" x 5-1/4" (for inside)
    • Basic Black: 3-1/2" x 1-3/4"
  2. Use Blending Brushes to add some Misty Moonlight ink to the woodgrain DSP. Adhere the DSP to card base.
  3. Cut a frame from the silver foil, using the third and fourth largest rectangles. Cut several stars and the moon using the dies (these can be cut from the remaining piece).
  4. Apply ink to the Shimmery White piece with Blending Brushes, starting with a circle at the centre, and adding colour in overlapping rings toward the outer edge. Start with Bermuda Bay, then Pacific Point, Misty Moonlight, and finishing with Night of Navy.
  5. Flick the brush of a small Water Painter (or small paintbrush) so small drops of water spray onto the ink; let dry (blot larger drops).
  6. Die cut Santa and reindeer from Basic Black, cut away the frame, curve and adhere over dry Shimmery White layer.
  7. Adhere stars and moon.
  8. Stamp sentiment in Tuxedo Black Memento.
  9. Glue silver frame to Shimmery White piece.
  10. Adhere to card base with foam strips.
  11. Glue the Basic White piece inside.

This is actually a fairly quick card to make! I love using our Blending Brushes for backgrounds like this. The flicked water drops add a nice effect, I think. This bundle has a lot of versatility--it has wheat, leaves, a branch, a bow, moon and stars, pumpkins, ornaments, snowflakes, Santa and his reindeer, and some handy sentiments. It's also wonderful for making gift tags. What's not to love??
