West Coast Creators Blog Hop - Giving Gifts Christmas Card

Welcome to the West Coast Creators Blog Hop's November edition!! As you can probably tell, this month we are featuring Christmas cards! It is hard to believe that Christmas is only six weeks away!! Yikes! Time to get your cards made! Here's a great card to make, using the Time of Giving Bundle, which includes the Time of Giving stamp set and the Giving Gifts Dies. This is an AMAZING bundle, because it is so versatile! It contains stamps and dies that are great for Fall, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Winter, and Christmas!!! This is a great bang-for-your-buck bundle!!

My card style was inspired by one I saw a long time ago, made by Fanny Stafford.

  1. Cut the following layers:
    • Basic Black cardstock: 8-1/2" x 5-1/2", scored at 4-1/4"
    • In Good Taste Designer Series Paper (DSP): 4" x 5-1/4" (wood grain)
    • Silver Foil: 3-1/4" x 4-1/2"
    • Shimmery White cardstock: 2-7/8" x 4-1/4"
    • Basic White: 4" x 5-1/4" (for inside)
    • Basic Black: 3-1/2" x 1-3/4"
  2. Use Blending Brushes to add some Misty Moonlight ink to the woodgrain DSP. Adhere the DSP to card base.
  3. Cut a frame from the silver foil, using the third and fourth largest rectangles. Cut several stars and the moon using the dies (these can be cut from the remaining piece).
  4. Apply ink to the Shimmery White piece with Blending Brushes, starting with a circle at the centre, and adding colour in overlapping rings toward the outer edge. Start with Bermuda Bay, then Pacific Point, Misty Moonlight, and finishing with Night of Navy.
  5. Flick the brush of a small Water Painter (or small paintbrush) so small drops of water spray onto the ink; let dry (blot larger drops).
  6. Die cut Santa and reindeer from Basic Black, cut away the frame, curve and adhere over dry Shimmery White layer.
  7. Adhere stars and moon.
  8. Stamp sentiment in Tuxedo Black Memento.
  9. Glue silver frame to Shimmery White piece.
  10. Adhere to card base with foam strips.
  11. Glue the Basic White piece inside.

This is actually a fairly quick card to make! I love using our Blending Brushes for backgrounds like this. The flicked water drops add a nice effect, I think. This bundle has a lot of versatility--it has wheat, leaves, a branch, a bow, moon and stars, pumpkins, ornaments, snowflakes, Santa and his reindeer, and some handy sentiments. It's also wonderful for making gift tags. What's not to love??
