Sweet Little Stockings Fun-Fold Card

Welcome to our October edition of the West Coast Creators Blog Hop!! This month we are featuring fun-fold cards! This type of card is always a little bit different from your typical card, and people love to receive them! I made a double-box card recently (check out my October 6 blog entry to see my original double-box Sailing Home masculine card), which was inspired by a lovely floral card that Australia's Gail Ellis made. Someone commented that it was a cool twist to have turned the card sideways. Hmmmm... so I guess my card for this blog post is turning the card back to its "normal" orientation. So, this is a two-for-one fun-fold card!! How awesome is that??

This double-box card is also kind of cool because, even though it has lots of dimension, it folds flat to fit in a regular card-sized envelope.

Once I had the upper and lower box portions made, and some Sweet Stockings Designer Series paper (DSP) "wallpaper" adhered to the background, I took a 3-3/8" x 3-5/8" piece of Basic White cardstock, embossed it with the Brick & Mortar embossing folder, and attached it to the card front. Two stockings from the Sweet Stockings DSP were cut with the Stockings Dies, and added to the bricks. I cut a Basic Black piece with one of the Stitched So Sweetly Dies, then trimmed it straight across at the bottom and adhered it to the bottom of the embossed white piece. I made a fire by using the seaweed die from Smooth Sailing Dies to cut several pieces of Mango Melody, Pumpkin Pie, and Copper Foil to resemble flames, painted the Mango Melody and Pumpkin Pie pieces with Wink of Stella, and glued the flames to the black piece.

I made a mantle with a 3-3/4" x 1-5/8" piece of wood paper from In Good Taste DSP, which I scored along the short side at 1/8", 1/4", and 1/2", and folded it so that the mantle was slightly over the edge of the bricks, and adhered it to the bricks and DSP wallpaper.

The greeting was stamped with Cherry Cobbler, the ends of the sentiment strip were cut into a banner shape, and then it was adhered to the background. I added three Decorative Matte Dots to the sentiment.

Thanks for visiting my blog! If you have a moment, please leave a comment below. Then be sure to hop to each of my talented teammates' blogs to see their beautiful fun-fold cards!

Sailing Home Fun-Fold Card

Hello, and thank you for visiting my blog! I have entered a new card in Kylie Bertucci's October International Highlights contest. If you like it, I hope that you will vote for itPlease click on the button below to go to Kylie's blog, and vote by clicking on the top right corner of the thumbnail of my card (#1), until you see the heart turn red. Thank you for your support!

This great fun-fold project was inspired by a lovely floral card that I saw, made by Australia's Gail Ellis. This is my take on her double-box card. This is a cool card, because it folds flat, and fits in a regular envelope!

I really love the Sailing Home stamp set, and it is definitely my go-to for masculine cards! I started with a piece of 3-1/2" x 3-1/4" Basic White Cardstock (I usually use Shimmery White Cardstock for blended and watercolour backgrounds, but thought I'd try Basic White for a change 😊). The lighthouse, from Sailing Home, was stamped in Night of Navy, and then I used a Blender Pen to spread the navy colour across the lighthouse.

I cut a Post-It Note in the shape of a hill, and covered the lower portion of the cardstock--this would later become the sand. I used Blending Brushes, and added colours to make the sky background. I started with Fresh Freesia at the bottom, then added Balmy Blue, Pool Party, and Pacific Point--overlapping colours, and getting darker toward the top of the card. Next, I added another Post-It Note at the water line, and applied more colour (Pool Party and Pacific Point) to the water with Blending Brushes. The sailboat was also stamped in Night of Navy, blended with a Blender Pen, and then I added some waves to the water with a White Stampin' Chalk Marker

I removed both Post-It Notes, and put the "negative" of the first note over the inked sky and water, and sponged some Crumb Cake ink onto the sand. Some texture was added to the sand using Crumb Cake and a stamp from Color & Contour.

To finish off the card front, I stamped the birds in Night of Navy, added a large Rhinestone Basic Jewel to the lighthouse, and matted it on a 3-5/8" x 3-3/8" piece of Night of Navy cardstock. The Night of Navy sentiment is from Penguin Place, cut with our Messages Die. The Basic White background, left foreground, and right side edge pieces are all embossed with the Wintry 3D embossing folder.

Another Penguin Place Thank You Card

Thank you for visiting my blog! And thanks for your votes, which placed me into the Top Ten Winners of Kylie Bertucci's September International Blog Highlights!! Woohoo! I now get to participate in Kylie's Top Ten Winners Hop again. It is an honour to be part of a group of tremendously talented designers from all over the world. If you haven't seen my "Top Ten" card, it is posted at the bottom of this blog entry.

Well, this is something new for me, and it was a little tricky. I wanted to have my penguin appear to slide down the slope. I was finally able to get something that worked, and I was pretty excited when it did!! The penguin slides down the hill when you open the right side of the card, which you can see in the video. It's just 9 seconds long--I hope that you like the card!!

I used the Penguin Place bundle, and the adorable FREE Sale-a-Bration Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper (DSP). If you live in Canada, you can get the DSP (or your choice of a different package of paper or a stamp set) for free with a purchase of $60 (before taxes and shipping). But don't wait long--our Sale-a-Bration promotion ends on September 30, so you have only a few more days!! If you live in Canada and don't have a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, please contact me--I'd love to be your demonstrator!

The DSP really does most of the work in this card! You can see penguins, foxes, and bears having fun in the snow on the paper at the bottom of the card. The trees on the second DSP makes a nice background.

Our sliding penguin is stamped several times, using the Stamparatus to get a nice, solid black, and then I fussy cut him. I made a slider by punching out two 1/2" pieces of flat, clear plastic, and several 1/4" pieces, and then I layered them with glue dots, put them in a slot with the larger pieces above and below the layer, and attached that to a clear elastic. The penguin was adhered to the slider with a glue dot, and the other end of the elastic was glued to the back of the right edge of the card, pulling it taut, with the penguin placed at the top of the hill. When the card is unfolded, the elastic pulls the penguin down the hill.

If you've read my blog before, you might remember that I wasn't too excited about the Penguin Place stamp set when I first saw it. I can be so wrong! 🙄 Now I am making plenty of penguin cards, and having fun doing so! They are just so darn cute!! Check out my September 6 and August 14 blog entries for two more penguin cards!

Here is the package of paper that you can get for free (value $15.75 CDN)--but just until September 30!! Please check out my August 14th blog entry for another card made with this DSP. If you do not have a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, and live in Canada, I would love to be your demonstrator! Shop here! 😊

Here is my card (see my September 6 blog) that was voted into the Top Ten Winners in Kylie's International Highlights Blog.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog--I'd love to hear from you! If you have a moment, please leave a comment below. Then be sure to hop to all of the Top Ten Winners' blogs! You'll see some amazing creations!
